As part of the Let’s Bet on Equality project, BATIK International supported the teams at the NGO Concept in Dakar to strengthen the integration of gender issues into their activities and operations. A week of collaborative work was dedicated to developing tools, sharing best practices, and embedding this approach sustainably within the organization.
Supporting Change Within Organizations
Because promoting gender equality is not limited to a single project or activity, BATIK International supports its partners in a more comprehensive transformation process.
In Dakar, several working sessions were organized with teams from the NGO Concept: an exploratory walk, meetings with the young people they support·, and community education activities helped further the discussion on gender issues and their impact on young people’s life paths.
Building Tools for Sustainable Action
This initiative also laid the groundwork for an awareness program aimed at young men. The39;goal: to offer a comprehensive curriculum that guides them in reflecting on gender norms, forms of masculinity, and their consequences for both themselves and others.
At the same time, BATIK supported the “Gender” group at the NGO Concept in defining a shared vision for mainstreaming gender. Together, the participants began developing a three-year roadmap to sustainably integrate this approach not only into projects but also into the organization’s internal operations.
A partnership based on mutual learning
This initiative arose from the NGO Concept’s desire to strengthen the integration of gender-related social issues into all of its activities. It illustrates theambition of the Parions l’égalité project: to support partner organizations in developing more inclusive practices that benefit young people and promote equality.
Among the goals shared during the week, the local coordinators notably expressed their desire tohelp young men understand that their masculine identity is socially constructed and to identify the consequences these norms can have on themselves and others.
