Program of Ile-de-France chinese community's integration (2002-2007)
Promoting the integration of Chinese people in the Paris region
In the Ile-de-France region, people of Chinese origin form a rather community-based population, helping each other on a daily basis. However, the help provided by their network of acquaintances is not always enough to meet their needs.
The Chinois d'Europe et Intégration project was therefore launched in 2002 by the Délégation à la Politique de la Ville et de l’Intégration with the aim of favor l’intégration de la communauté chinoise francilienne. Following a diagnosis of their needs, particularly those of women and young people, activities have been set up to support them in their professional orientation, enabling them to cover, among other things, trades and/or sectors of activity considered atypical for the Chinese community.
In 2006, the need arose to promote specialized structures to the Chinese community in the Paris region. The DIFF Chine project therefore followed on from à Chinois d’Europe et Intégration to form a réseau d’organisations pouvant répondre;besoins spécifiques de cette communauté.
A film entitled 7 femmes chinoises was produced to highlight the life stories of Chinese women living in France. The video was the main medium for a series of events organized in Paris, Lille and Lyon.
A practical guide has also been published for support professionals to help them guide Chinese migrants in their integration process: Chinese in the Paris Region: Facts and Figures.
In 2007, ASLC (Association d’Assistance Linguistique, Scolaire et Culturelle) initiated the Civis Chine project, the aim of which was to enable the Chinese community in Ile-de-France, living away from their host country, to better understand the organization and operation of French authorities. Providing access to this information has contributed to the integration of people of Chinese origin and has mobilized citizens.
In this context, several media have been developed: a column in the Chinese newspaper, published by ASLC and GONG, presenting French society and its institutions, and a practical guide in Chinese about and for Chinese women in the Paris region.
