Linking ecology and women's empowerment: another step towards social and environmental justice
BATIK Int. and its Tunisian partner (AVFR) took part in a F3E network seminar on gender and climate.
Women, particularly rural women, are overexposed to the effects of climate change. This is due to their precarious situation, their care-oriented role in society, and the violence against women that is exacerbated in the context of natural disasters or conflicts. As the most affected group, their integration into the fight for ecological justice must be considered.
As part of their project promoting the empowerment of rural women in Tunisia, BATIK Int. and the Association Victoire pour la Femme Rurale (AVFR) are exploring ways to integrate ecological issues into their actions. This reflection is in line with BATIK Int.'s commitment to carrying out multidimensional projects.
From September 28th to October 4th 2025, the ‘Social and Ecological Change Workshop’ seminar, organised by the F3E network, enabled BATIK Int. and AVFR to (re)appropriate gender- and ecology-sensitive tools. The seminar was the first in a new series of experiments by F3E and was aimed at pairs of partner associations. The participatory tools will enable this project to consider living beings and ecological issues by listening to those most affected, namely Tunisian women.
Batik Int. and AVFR are looking forward to putting these tools into practice to defend and promote social and environmental justice.
