The resource people who support BATIK International’s work

Since BATIK International was founded the organisation has drawn on qualified people with specific areas of expertise and has involved them in projects needing specialised skills. Several resource people work with the organisation on a regular basis.

A designer for the past 20 years, Marion Trouillot teaches in major Parisian fashion design schools and is an independent designer for leading clothing brands. Marion has worked on fashion industry trades training schemes and dressmaking and fashion design training initiatives with BATIK International (hypertext link : Minorities and crafts project).

Young independent film-maker, Karim Ait Gacem, came to the public’s attention when he made La cité isolée a documentary about a cité de transit in the Paris region in 2005. Sensitive to issues relating to the memories of migrants, he worked with BATIK International on the Patriarchs project and produced a 26 minute film, which is used as a means of passing on the memories of elderly migrants to the younger generations (Patriarches).

A photographer for close to 20 years, Hanna Zaworonko works in France and Poland on themes relating to the influence of people’s origins, memory and passing on memories. She runs workshops in schools on these themes and also produces works combining text and images. Hanna has worked on two BATIK International projects linking memories and migrants via two books producing a series of portraits Mémoires d’immigrants et Projets Solidaires (immigrants’ memories and socially responsible projects) and Patriarches. Visit her website to find out more about her work : http://hanna.zaworonko.free.fr/

Carine Guerrasssimoff is a political scientist, sinologist and researcher in the SEDET-University of Paris. Her studies touch different matters such as the Chinese State, new migration waves and Chinese women mobility. She has assisted BATIK-International in numerous projects such as DIFF China and Integration and European Chinese. She is the author of "L’Etat chinois et les communautés chinoise d’Outre-mer" Paris, L’Harmattan, 1997 and has collaborated "Loin des yeux, près du coeur. Les Etats et leurs expatriés" Paris, Les Presses de Science po, 2010. Currently she is writing a study on Chinese’s foreign policy.
