Nicolas Hulot School - Creation of a training process (2006-2007)
The Nicolas Hulot School for Nature and Mankind opened in 2004, in Branféré in the Morbihan area of Brittany (France). In France, the School aims to become a platform for "Sustainable Development” skills. With the support of the Fondation de France, it therefore wanted to widen the training opportunities offered and develop a resources center.
In 2006-2007, BATIK International was thus entrusted with a survey aimed at defining the major characteristics of a new training scheme and implementing it under the management of a steering committee. Several new advanced training ideas were considered and studied in different sectors: agro-ecology, landscaping, water and waste management, energy, sustainable development consulting, etc.
The green building industry was eventually adopted as a competency area, as employment in this sector was expanding and the training opportunities available in France were quite scarce. After many meetings with professionals from the sector, the survey recommended the creation of a vocational degree in green building and green materials, which was implemented at the University of South Brittany, partner of the Nicolas Hulot School. The vocational Bachelor’s Degree is a qualification with 3 years of study after high-school. Its originality lies in its foundation on close partnerships between universities, other training institutions, companies and sectors of industry.

In September 2008, 24 students were admitted to the first class of the vocational Bachelor’s Degree “Implementation of green materials and green building project” (see the hyperlink).
