Immigrants’ memories and socially responsible projects in France and Algeria (2001-2002)
BATIK International worked with CLEF to encourage the creation of socially responsible projects between France and Algeria drawing on the memories of Algerian immigrants. Memory workshops bringing together first and second generation Algerian immigrants led to the creation of a board game on immigration journeys and the publication of a collection of immigrants’ life stories (Algérie France Deux terres, Mémoires pour demain - Editions Macadam & Cie). The second phase of the project used the plans that emerged at the memory workshops as a basis for a mission to Algeria enabling beneficiaries to set up economic and cultural projects with their country of origin.
