Support for the Chinese community in the Paris region (2007)

The CIVIS Chine project was set up by ASLC (Linguistic, Educational and Cultural Support Association) and aimed to facilitate access for the Ile-de-France Region Chinese community, who have very little contact with their host country, to information about French society in order to improve their understanding of it and help them to integrate better as citizens of the region.

The project was designed at themed workshops using a participatory approach with Chinese women. A column presenting French society and institutions was included in the Gong, the Chinese language newspaper published by ASLC, and a practical Chinese language guide about and for Chinese women in the Paris region was published. BATIK International helped run the workshops and produce the newspaper column and guide.

The project received the support of the Ile-de-France Region as part of the Support for democratic and citizen participation in the region programme.
